Basketball - Varsity Boys
American Heritage is excited to announce our new Boys’ Basketball Director and Head Coach, Raja Bell!
Raja Bell is a former Miami Killian High standout who also starred at both Boston University and Florida International University. Bell earned NAC Rookie of the Year honors in 1995 while at BU. He was a two time All League selection and was one of only 3 FIU Men’s Basketball players to have his jersey retired by the program.
While at FIU, Raja met his wife Cindy who was a stand out for the FIU‘s Women’s Soccer program. Raja was also a member of the Virgin Islands Men’s National Basketball team for several years. He went on to have a stellar NBA career that spanned 13 seasons playing for the Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks, Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns, Charlotte Bobcats, and Golden State Warriors. Known for his 3 point shooting and tenacious defense, he was twice named to the NBA All Defensive team and led the NBA in 3 pointers made during the 06-07 season.
Upon retiring, Raja joined the Cleveland Cavaliers front office in 2014 as their Director of Player Administration where he worked hand in hand with NBA players such as Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love and Lebron James.
In 2016, Raja became an NBA analyst and show co-host at CBSsports.com. He currently has a show on CBSsportsHQ called “Kanell and Bell” with former NFL quarterback Danny Kanell. In his downtime, Raja started his own youth basketball program that is currently nationally ranked. Raja’s sister, Tombi, was the Gatorade Player of the Year in 1997 for the state of Florida. She went on to play for the University of Florida Women’s Basketball team and was drafted in 2001 by the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx. His father, Roger Bell, is a former Associate Athletics Director at the University of Miami. Raja's mother,Denise Bell, was a career educator in the Dade County Public School system and is a huge reason why Raja has always been drawn to teaching.
Raja is married to his wife, Cindy. They have three boys, Dia, Tai and Zen and a daughter Kya. He is very excited to develop a strong boys’ basketball program for our 6th-12th grade student-athletes.
