Welcome to American Heritage Cross Country. All boys and girls in grades 6-12,
regardless of ability or experience, are welcomed and encouraged to participate. Many of
the school runners will be new to the sport and training sessions will be appropriate to the
runner’s ability. There is a certain amount of work involved in any endurance sport. Our
goal is to grow as an athlete and also keep it fun!
All runners must have a physical exam on FHSAA sports physical paperwork BEFORE
they are allowed to participate in training sessions. The sports physical must be uploaded
to Magnus from your school portal. A GA7 form must also be turned in to the athletic
office for the student to be approved to participate. Once the athletic office clears you,
you may then start training. This must all be completed within the first week of official
The most important equipment a runner needs is a proper pair of running shoes. If you
are new to running and are not sure what you need, I recommend visiting a running store
such Runners Depot or Running Wild.
In addition to your shoes, you will also need a t-shirt and shorts. Cotton clothing is fine
however, dri-fit tends to work well in the warm weather.
Athletes need to hydrate daily and stay hydrated in our humid/weather. Water will be
available at all training sessions. You are encouraged to also bring your own water
bottles as well. Runners can substitute a sports drink for water. Drinks like Gatorade do
have important electrolytes such as sodium and potassium but also have a lot of added
sugar so please look at all of the ingredients.
