Students Win State Magazine Title and 14 Journalism Awards

The student journalism staff of the Stallion Sentinel newspaper earned multiple state-level recognitions at the Florida Scholastic Press Association (FSPA) Spring Contest and Convention in Orlando. Competing against student publications from across Florida, the newspaper team earned awards in design, photography, and multiple writing disciplines.

Individual State Champion and Staff Recognitions

The state convention evaluated entries across various formats, judging student work on editorial voice, visual layout, and journalistic integrity. The Palm Beach campus student journalists secured several notable distinctions:

• Dylan Gold — First Place in Magazine Design: Dylan earned the top individual state ranking in the Convention Contests category for his publication layout and visual design work.

• The Stallion Sentinel Staff — Spring Digital Contests: The editorial team won a combined 14 staff and individual awards for their digital journalism, including:
  • 2 All-Florida Ratings: the highest designation awarded by the association for exceptional scholastic journalism
  • 2 Excellent Ratings: recognizing high-caliber reporting and production value
  • 10 Honorable Mentions: across specialized categories, including feature writing, opinion writing, page design, and photography

Developing a highly rated student publication requires a strong command of modern media literacy, rigorous editing workflows, and graphic design principles. The students on the Stallion Sentinel staff manage the entire production cycle of the newspaper, balancing tight publication deadlines with objective, well-researched reporting.
