Spreading Joy and Hope: Pre-Med Society's 24th Annual Holiday Party for Children Battling Cancer

In the spirit of compassion and community, the Pre-Medical Society from both campuses has once again demonstrated the power of collective goodwill through its annual service project. The holiday party is a culmination of a series of events that include a Superhero party in October, where the pediatric oncology patients create their “letters to Santa” followed by a gala to raise funds to buy presents for the kids, a day of shopping, and ends with the annual holiday party.
Celebrating its 6th year, the gala held on December 2nd, named the "007 Royale Gala," brought together parents and students for an evening of dancing, dining, and fundraising. This extraordinary event was not just a night of celebration but a significant initiative to benefit the pediatric oncology unit at the Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital at Broward Health Medical Center.

The collective efforts of the students have yielded remarkable results, as over $20,000 has been raised this school year alone towards this crucial cause. The gala, marked by its one-of-a-kind raffle and silent auction items, became a platform for the community to contribute to the well-being of young patients battling pediatric oncology.

Following the success of the gala, the dedication of the Pre-Med Society officers from both campuses continued to shine as they spent a day shopping for gifts. These gifts were carefully selected with love and consideration for the children at the Broward Health Medical Center pediatric cancer unit. The culmination of this heartfelt effort took place at the 24th annual holiday party.

The holiday party, a cherished tradition, is a testament to the commitment of the Pre-Med Society in bringing joy to young patients during a challenging time. Led by officers Kangana Modi, Aditya Kapadia, Julia Chammas, Branden Frishman, Kamilat Mustapha, and Sofia Zhuravska, the event featured different activities, including gingerbread decorating, board games, and memorable moments with Santa. At the Holiday Party, the students witnessed the joy on the kids' faces as they handed over the presents.

The true magic of the holiday party lies not only in the gifts but also in the genuine connections forged between the students, Santa, and the resilient pediatric oncology patients. Special recognition goes to the outstanding acapella performance by Sebastian Gomez, Matthew Squeri, Lindsay Dokson, and Maya Levinson, and the heartwarming portrayal of Santa by Gabriel Restrepo.

This annual initiative goes beyond raising funds: the Pre-Med Society's dedication to creating a festive and uplifting atmosphere for these young patients underscores the transformative impact of collective kindness to brighten the dark days and bring hope to those who need it most.
