Seven Seniors Named 2026 U.S. Presidential Scholars Semifinalists

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program has released its list of semifinalists for 2026, naming several local high school seniors from South Florida to this national student cohort. The initiative selects individuals based on academic transcripts, standardized test performance, artistic achievements, and career programs.

Out of the millions of high school seniors graduating across the United States this year, only 500 to 600 candidates advance to the semifinalist level of competition.

2026 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program Semifinalists

The following students from both Broward and Palm Beach campuses secured placements in the national semifinalist pool:

  • Samuel C. Danzig
  • Siyuan Du
  • Rishitha Marri
  • Sonya Singh
  • Daniela Vasiliki Balodimas Staton
  • Elizabeth Xiao

National Academic Recognition and University Admissions

The selection process evaluates candidates from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and American schools abroad. Initial eligibility is determined through top-tier SAT or ACT scores, or separate nominations from state school officers.

University admissions offices evaluate the semifinalist designation as a top-tier secondary school milestone. Candidates remaining in the selection pool are reviewed by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars. The final phase of the program selects up to 161 students to be named U.S. Presidential Scholars, who are invited to Washington, D.C., to receive the Presidential Scholars Medallion during a national recognition event.
