Pre-Engineering Students Celebrated Their Inventions at Annual Showcase

Juniors and seniors from the Pre-Engineering Program celebrated their inventions at the Annual Pre-Engineering Showcase.

The end-of-year event presents the junior engineering science fair 2nd generation prototypes and the senior year-long engineering projects. A 4-person judging team composed of three engineers and a patent attorney evaluated the senior’s year-long projects. Another 4-person judging team of four engineers evaluated the Junior Engineering Science Fair Projects, after which students exhibited their inventions. The afternoon concluded with public presentations by each Senior Design Team.

The top junior students and their projects will be invited to continue developing their prototypes - during the Honors Summer Science Research class and during the fall for entry in county, state and national engineering science fair competitions.

  • First place - Ethan Dell - Watersports GoPro Gimbal
  • Second place - Ava Baffer - Touchless Piano
  • Third place - Killian Embler - Help Me Grip Gloves (Grip Assistance for Arthritis Patients)

Seniors taking the 4th year of the Pre-Engineering Program complete a full-year design project. This is similar in scope and challenge to a one-semester senior design project for mechanical engineers at FAU and other accredited 4-year university undergraduate engineering programs. The Laurie family generously provides each senior EDD team with a $1,000 budget to purchase materials and equipment to build and test a working prototype of their solution.
