ASALH (The Association for the Study of African American Life and History) will explore food, culture and black family traditions on Saturday, February 6th. Did you know Okra became a staple in North American cooking starting in the 18th century and passed down through generations, it is known as the secret ingredient to flavor African soups, stews, rice dishes and including Gumbo.
