Fine Arts Presents “Booby Trap”: A Stirring Exploration of Sacrifice and Reflection
The Black Box Theater came alive with a compelling performance of Ed Monk's One-Act Play, Booby Trap. Presented by the 7th and 8th Grade Thespians of Troupe 88410, the production captivated audiences with its poignant storytelling and profound exploration of sacrifice, memory, and the human cost of war.
Directed by Ms. Elyse Anderson, Troupe Director, Booby Trap tells the story of Pete Galen, an American soldier trapped against a tree by a landmine in a combat zone. As he faces an uncertain fate, moments from his past, present, and future unfold around him, offering a raw and emotional narrative of the choices and sacrifices that led him to the battlefield.
The play was performed with a cast of 24 students and a dedicated technical team who worked tirelessly to bring the story to life. Ms. Anderson was drawn to its emotional depth and ensemble structure. “It’s a strong piece with opportunities for many students to shine,” she said.
Behind the scenes, the technical team, led by student director Leo Scruggs and technical director Mr. Neil Burton, ensured the seamless execution of set designs, lighting, and sound. Special thanks were given to scenic designer Mr. Luke Kelley, scenic painter Mrs. Bailey Coberley, and fine arts assistant Mrs. Julie Struhl for their invaluable contributions.
