2026PBYoungPlaywrightsWinner2000x350

We are proud to celebrate sophomore Nia Lambrou for achieving a monumental professional milestone in the arts. Nia’s original 10-minute play, "Airplane Mode," was selected as a finalist for the prestigious Palm Beach Dramaworks Young Playwrights Festival. Out of 150 competitive submissions from across the county, Nia’s work was chosen as one of only ten featured pieces, marking her as a definitive talent in South Florida's creative community.

A Published Playwright as a Sophomore

The selection for the Palm Beach Dramaworks festival allowed Nia to make a crucial transition from student writer to published playwright. Achieving this professional distinction in 10th grade is exceedingly rare, reflecting the advanced creative inquiry and technical training provided by the American Heritage Fine Arts department.

Her ability to craft a compelling, nuanced narrative that resonated with professional critics and selection committees set her apart as a significant voice among her peers.

Professional Workshop & Premiere

As part of the festival experience, Nia did not just submit her script; she actively participated in the professional play development process. Her time in the program included:

  • Professional Workshops: Collaborating directly with experienced directors and actors to refine the dialogue, pacing, and narrative structure of "Airplane Mode."
  • The PBD Showcase: Witnessing her work brought to life by professional equity actors on the main stage of the Don & Ann Brown Theatre in downtown West Palm Beach.
  • The Premiere: "Airplane Mode" officially premiered on March 3rd, culminating in a stellar performance that showcased Nia’s creative maturity to a professional audience.
