National Merit Scholars 2021, #1 Private School in the United States
PL National Merit 2021 Story, American Heritage School

#1 Private School in the United States for highest number of National Merit Scholars Finalists

Out of a total of 50,000 students who were recognized high scorers, 52 students in the American Heritage, Broward campus Class of 2021 have been named National Merit Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). This marks American Heritage #1 in the nation out of all private schools with the highest number of National Merit Scholars and #1 high school in Florida for the 11th straight year. One in four students in the Class of 2021 scored in the top 1% of students in the nation.

Additionally, 31 seniors received National Commended Scholar status on the basis of a nationally applied Selection Index score that is typically below the level required for participants to be named Semifinalists in their respective states. Commended students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, however, some students are candidates for scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.

This year the College Board included three additional National Recognition Programs that give students from underrepresented communities the chance to connect with universities throughout the U.S. by awarding them academic honors. Students who take the PSAT/NMSQT and are African American, Hispanic American or Latinx, Indigenous, or attend school in a rural area or small town, may be invited to apply for this new national scholar recognition.
