Fine Arts Scholarship

Important Information

Fine Art Scholarships are designed for the student who is dedicated to their craft and possibly planning for a career in the arts.

Fine Art Scholarships are generally granted to incoming Grade 9 students.
Depending on the current needs of our program, a limited number of awards may be available for Grade 10 through Grade 12 applicants.
Once awarded, each recipient's schedule will include two electives, as assigned, in the Fine Arts.
Students on scholarship will be expected to be leaders in their discipline, both in and out of the classroom.
After school performances and competitions will be required as part of the scholarship contract.

Scholarships are granted based on individual auditions in the following five disciplines:

Band
Orchestra
Dance
Musical Theater
Theater Technology

Unfortunately, we do not offer scholarships for Piano, Guitar or Visual Arts at this time.

*Current American Heritage Students

If you are a current American Heritage Student, please follow the application process under step 2. Current AHS students will not have to provide any additional documents. All AHS students interested in a Fine Arts Scholarship will need to follow all pre-screen steps once they have completed the application process.

Application Process

Step 1: Contact Admissions

Parents of interested students are required to call admissions to speak to an Admissions Director regarding their child's eligibility. Admissions Directors can be reached at 561-495-7272 ext. 1. After speaking to an Admissions Director, parents may proceed with an application.

Note: Any incoming Grade 9 student may audition but to accept a fine arts scholarship a student must first be accepted into the school.

Step 2: How To Apply

Step 3: Pre-screen/ Registration

In order to be eligible for an audition, students are required to submit all admissions requirements first.

Pre-screen videos must be submitted via email to finearts.palmbeach@ahschool.com between September 1, 2023 and January 11, 2024. The last day for a pre-screen video to be submitted is no later than 9:00 AM EST on January 11, 2024. Incomplete or insufficient pre-screening materials may affect consideration for an invitation to an in-person audition. Submissions are welcomed prior to January 11, 2024.

Applicants selected for an in-person audition will receive information for the in-person process in an email by January 12, 2024. Pre-screening decisions are final. Applicants who are not invited to the in-person auditions will not be permitted to schedule an in-person audition. Applicants who are invited to an in-person audition are required to attend a live audition in order to be considered for scholarship. An invitation to an in-person audition is not an offer of scholarship.

All pre-screening videos should contain the following material, in the order listed:

Introductory Section:

A brief close-up shot of the student (face or ½ body), in which the student clearly states his or her full name, current Middle School and a brief history of previous training.

Audition Requirements

Please see your specific genre for more details about your audition.

Make sure your video is one continuous video with no edits or cuts of any kind. Please review your pre-screening before submitting it to be sure that you can be clearly seen throughout the duration of the video.

Registration for Technical Theatre Interview

In order to schedule a Technical Theatre Interview, students must submit information found under Technical Theatre by 9:00 AM on January 11, 2024. After reading the information, the committee will select candidates to come to American Heritage for a personal interview. All candidates, receiving an interview or not, will be contacted by January 12, 2024.

Disclaimer

If your child is planning on taking the Academic Scholarship Test on January 27, 2024, they will not be required to take a separate admissions test. The Academic Scholarship Test should fulfill the admissions testing requirement. If your child is a current American Heritage Schools, Palm Beach student seeking a Fine Arts Scholarship, you do not need to submit an additional application.

Band

Pre-screening videos must be submitted via email to Mr. Brad Tremper at finearts.palmbeach@ahschool.com no later than 9:00 AM EST on Thursday, January 11, 2024.

Finalists in-person auditions for the Band will be January 19, 2024 at American Heritage Schools, Palm Beach campus by scheduled appointment.

Students interested in auditioning for Band should prepare based on the below criteria.

Accepted Band Instruments

Trumpet
Trombone
Clarinet
Oboe
Flute
Saxophone
Tuba
French Horn
Bassoon
Snare drum including all of the mallet or keyboard instruments (Bells, Xylophone, Vibes, and Marimba).
Baritone/Euphonium

Students interested in auditioning for Band should prepare based on the below criteria.

12 major scales in two minutes or less
Chromatic scale extending the range of the instrument
Sight Reading (in-person audition only)

Orchestra

Pre-screening videos must be submitted via email to Mr. Brad Tremper at finearts.palmbeach@ahschool.com no later than 9:00 AM EST on Thursday, January 11, 2024.

Finalists in-person auditions for Orchestra will be January 19, 2024 at American Heritage Schools, Palm Beach campus by scheduled appointment.

Students interested in auditioning for orchestra should prepare based on the below criteria:

Accepted Orchestra Instruments

• Violin

• Viola

• Cello

• Bass

Violin, Viola and Cello Requirements:

NO accompaniment required.
Two prepared pieces of contrasting styles – must be at least grade level 4. No Pop Music. A single level of a concerto is considered to be one piece.
Your choice of three of the following major Scales and Arpeggios in three octaves G, D. A, C, Bb, F, Eb; MEMORIZED.
Sight reading (in-person audition only)

Bass Requirements

NO accompaniment required.
Two prepared pieces of contrasting styles – must be at least grade level 4. No Pop Music. A single level of a concerto is considered to be one piece.
Your choice of three of the following major Scales and Arpeggios in two octaves G, D, A, C, Bb, F, Eb; MEMORIZED.

Dance

In-person auditions for Dance will be Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at American Heritage Schools, Palm Beach campus by scheduled appointment. There will be one group, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM.

Students interested in auditioning for a dance scholarship should be prepared based on the below criteria:

Dancer will be required to demonstrate: Pirouettes, Coupe Turns, Pencil Turns, À la Seconde, Saut de Chat Leap, Straddle leap, Firebird and Calypso
Dancer may also be asked to improv to random music selections
Choreographed solo in lyrical or contemporary
Choreographed solo in Jazz

Audition dress code: Black leotard, black tights, dance shoes of your choice and hair in a bun.

Please Note:

For your performance section, the solo may be original choreography or from standard repertory. It should demonstrate the dancer’s artistic qualities and flow of movement, and should be a minimum of two minutes in length, no longer. No additional costume should be worn. Pointe work is NOT a part of the audition process.

Musical Theatre

Pre-screening videos must be submitted via email to Mr. Brad Tremper at finearts.palmbeach@ahschool.com no later than 9:00 AM EST on Thursday, January 11, 2024.

Finalists in-person auditions for Musical Theatre will be January 19, 2024 at American Heritage Schools, Palm Beach campus by scheduled appointment.

Students interested in auditioning for a Musical Theatre Scholarship should be prepared to act and sing based on the below criteria:

Vocal Requirements

Two 32 bar cuts of songs of contrasting nature from the Musical Theatre Cannon (one ballad & one uptempo), a verse and a chorus (or roughly one minute). Choose songs that show off your range to the best of your ability!
Required accompaniment must be on a CD or flash drive. You may also email your accompaniment prior to the audition.

Acting Requirements

Two one-minute contemporary monologues of contrasting nature and age appropriate content (one dramatic & one comedic).
All monologue material should be found from published plays.
Contemporary plays are works from the 1970's to present day.

Technical Theatre

In order to schedule a Technical Theatre Interview, students must submit information by 9:00 AM EST on Thursday, January 11, 2024. After reading the information, the committee will select a few candidates to come to American Heritage Schools, Palm Beach campus for a personal interview. All candidates, receiving an interview or not, will be contacted by January 12, 2024.

Technical Theatre interviews will be January 19, 2024 at American Heritage Schools, Palm Beach campus by scheduled appointment. Please have a resume and references prepared and be able to bring it to the interview in a PDF file.

Students interested in a Technical Theatre Scholarship should have experience in one or more of the disciplines: lighting, sound, set design, set construction scenic/set painting and/or stage management.
