The AHS Broward Campus golf teams double-dipped this past weekend winning both the boys and girls team state titles!
The Boys team was led by team captain Luke Clanton who finished 3 under par to also win the individual state title. This is Clanton's 3rd individual title tying the state record and making him only the second player to win three championships in 4 years. Luke is the 8th Individual Champion from AHS, also a State record. Sohan Patel, Aiden Arce, and Sebastian Sacristan finished 9th, 14th, and 23rd respectively and Gabe Hegerstrom rounded out this year's state title team. This is the 4th boys' team title for AHS. The boys' teams played the par 72 El Campeon course at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills and the girls' teams played the par 72 Las Colinas course.
The Heritage girls team was 6 strokes out of the lead after day 1 and down by as many as 11 strokes on the front 9 of day 2. However, the Heritage girls continued to stay focused and make the tough shots through the wind and rain to overpower their opponents on the back 9 and finish with their 4th state title in the past 5 years. Senior Emma Parker finished with her career-best score along with strong finishes from sophomores Katherine Schaefer and Alessandra Tabora and 6th grader Laura Monsalve. Senior Kelly Shanahan anchored the team finishing 5th individually and securing the team’s victory with her final putt. This was a record-setting 10th state championship for the American Heritage girls golf team.
Congratulations to all of them and the coaches!
