Our Model UN team had a fantastic performance at NAIMUN, the Model UN Conference hosted by Georgetown University in Washington, DC. The conference had over 150 schools participating and over 3500 delegates. They won 20 awards (20 of our 32 students won awards), more than any other school! The Model UN Team was in the top five schools in terms of awards. It was their best performance in 7 years at NAIMUN.

They did superbly in the large GA committees, and SWEPT the Contemporary Crisis committees, winning Best Delegate in 4 of 5 committees, and winning Outstanding Delegate in the other one. The younger delegates (juniors and sophs) really led the way this time.

Besides the competition, they had an incredible weekend in DC. They visited the Spanish and Moldovan Embassies and had personal audiences with the Moldovan Ambassador and the Spanish Consulate. They also had a chance to spend time with former students Ryan DelGaudio, and Eric Bazail, who was on the NAIMUN staff. They toured Georgetown and GWU, walked the monuments, walked Capitol Hill, and visited the Smithsonian. Thank you to Mr. Mark Gruskin, Social Studies Teacher and Model UN Advisor, and the AHS staff that was part of the trip.

The North American Invitational Model United Nations (NAIMUN) is one of the oldest UN simulations for high school students in North America and the world. The 3,300+ participants convene for four days, simulating their role as delegates to the United Nations from a particular nation and serving as representatives of that country's policies. Students at NAIMUN are pushed to heighten their understanding of the international system through an incredible 40 mini-simulations, ranging from standard committees like the UN General Assembly and the Security Council to crisis simulations of various regional organizations, national cabinets, corporate boards, and political organizations.
