Kids Helping Kids Club Supported Local Families with Successful Thanksgiving Food Drive

The Kids Helping Kids (KHK) Club at American Heritage Schools, Broward Campus, recently concluded its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, resulting in significant support for Kids in Distress (KID). As a student-led group dedicated to raising funds and awareness for abused and neglected children in South Florida, the club focused its efforts on ensuring local families had everything necessary for a holiday meal.
The initiative saw broad participation as 54 students from the American Heritage joined peers from several other area high schools to gather donations. This collective effort allowed the club to assemble 399 completed Thanksgiving meal bags, providing a substantial amount of food for those supported by KID. Beyond the physical meals, the students also gathered $7,980 in gift cards, which offered families additional flexibility for their holiday needs.

The logistics of the drive relied on a committed group of volunteers who managed the intake and organization of the donations. On the day of the event, 14 student volunteers worked alongside two faculty members and two parent volunteers to process the items. While the main drive took place on campus, many contributions from other schools were first collected at a student's home before being transported to the school by the volunteer team.
With the food drive complete, the KHK Club has shifted its focus toward the Kid Hero 5K Race. This upcoming family-friendly event will take place at Vista View Park in Davie, FL, in January 2026. The race serves as another opportunity for the community to support the mission of Kids in Distress through active participation and fundraising. Those interested in joining the run or walk can register at kidhero5k.org.
