Junior Expands Groundbreaking Pickleball Initiative with Record-Breaking Second Tournament

Ava Weissman, a junior at American Heritage Schools, Broward Campus, Class of 2026, continues to make a profound impact through her non-profit, Pickleball 4 A Purpose—an initiative dedicated to bridging generational gaps and fostering meaningful connections between young people and seniors through the sport of pickleball.
Building on Early Success
Inspired by the joy of playing pickleball with her grandmother, Ava founded Pickleball 4 A Purpose in 2024 with the goal of promoting physical activity, mental well-being, and community engagement. The organization quickly gained traction, hosting its first tournament in September 2024, which raised over $6,000 and supported intergenerational programs.
A Milestone Second Tournament
On February 23, 2025, Ava hosted her second tournament at the Diadem Pickleball Complex in Coconut Creek, drawing 24 teams and surpassing expectations once again. The event raised $10,000, enabling Ava to donate $4,000 to United Home Care of Miami, a non-profit that provides nutritious meals to hundreds of seniors in South Florida.
Reflecting on the event’s success, Ava said, “Seeing so many people come together across generations, not just to compete but to form real connections, is exactly why I started this organization. The support from the community has been incredible, and I can’t wait to continue growing this initiative.”
Expanding Nationwide
Since its launch, Pickleball 4 A Purpose has raised over $19,000, organized multiple tournaments, and extended its outreach across 17 countries, accumulating 940 youth service hours. With six active chapters in five states, Ava has also developed a Chapter Playbook to guide new leaders in expanding the organization’s mission.
Looking ahead, Ava and her team are gearing up for their next tournament in mid-March, hosted by the Philadelphia chapter, which will raise funds for Bored No More, a non-profit dedicated to bringing fun and socialization to children in hospitals.
With her unwavering commitment to fostering intergenerational bonds and making a tangible difference in communities, Ava continues to inspire others to get involved—one pickleball match at a time.
