Lower School Mathletes Claim National Championship Title

In a display of academic excellence, the Lower School math team claimed the championship title in the Elementary School Division 1 Math Madness Competition. By securing this national prize, our students have solidified their standing among the highest-performing elementary mathematicians in the United States. The team, composed of 24 dedicated 4th and 5th-grade students, concluded the Fall 2025 season at the top of the leaderboard after weeks of rigorous academic matchups.
A National Stage for Logic and Teamwork
Math Madness is a team-based national online competition that began as a joint initiative between the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) and AreteLabs. Now in its 14th season, the event draws approximately 1,000 teams and 15,000 students from across the United States.
The competition follows a structure similar to sports tournaments, requiring students to solve complex problems under intense time pressure:
- Practice & Scrimmage: 5 initial rounds to hone skills.
- Bracket Tournament: 6 high-stakes rounds to determine the national leader.
How the Championship Was Won
While the entire group of 4th and 5th-graders worked together to secure the title, the competition format uses the top five scores from each round to determine the team's total. Our elementary mathletes competed in the 3rd–5th grade span, facing off against top-tier programs across the country in Division 1.
The following students achieved the highest scores during this championship run:
- 1st Place: Nickola Hart
- 2nd Place: Tyler Li
- 3rd Place: Angela Dietz
- 4th Place (Tie): Zivah Cohen, Jackson Ogden, Arthur Sedykh, and Lincoln Sperry
Celebrating Success
To honor this national title, the entire group was recognized during a special championship recess. This victory sets a high standard for the upcoming Mini-Madness and Re-Run events scheduled for early 2026. By working as a cohesive unit, these 24 students have proven that strong logic and collaboration lead to national success.
