Moot Court Team Wins National Championship

AHS Moot Court Claims 2024 National Championship in Debut Year

In a momentous victory for American Heritage Schools, the Moot Court team from American Heritage Schools, Broward Campus, secured the National Championship title in their debut year at the 2024 Final National Moot Court Tournament, hosted by the National Association of Moot Court (NAMC). Held virtually at the end of April, this prestigious competition saw teams from across the nation vying for top honors, with 41 teams, including an impressive 10 from American Heritage, competing in the finals. The intensity of the battle reached its peak in the final round between AHS Broward and AHS Palm Beach, highlighting the exceptional talent within our school community.

The Moot Court case problem presented a compelling appeal regarding Constitutional Law and the Free Speech Clause of the First Amendment, challenging participants to demonstrate their legal prowess and analytical skills. Under the guidance of their attorney coaches, Lead Coach Laura Burkhalter and Assistant Coach Cynthia Sahn, alongside the Director of the Legal Studies Program, Nikki Laurie, the AHS Broward team approached the competition with unwavering determination and dedication.

The culmination of their hard work and preparation resulted in an outstanding victory, with Charlotte Wu and Taeyoung Kim, both 12th-grade students, emerging as the National Champions. Their exemplary performance not only secured the top spot for themselves but also propelled American Heritage, Broward, to claim the coveted title of the #1 Moot Court Program in the Nation.

Additionally, the success of AHS Broward was further highlighted by the commendable performances of other nationally qualified teams, including Katerine Fateev & Jonathan "Cameron" Wright, Jade Capella & Daniella Glebov, and Bianca Prado & Angeliah Pierre. Despite not being able to compete due to scheduling conflicts, Sar Nandi & Aditya Sharma's qualification to the national tournament, exemplifies the depth of talent within our Moot Court program, with only the top 20% of each regional competition earning the opportunity to compete at the national level.

This historic win marks a significant milestone for American Heritage Schools, affirming our commitment to excellence in legal education and advocacy. The dedication, perseverance, and exceptional performance of our Moot Court Team reflect the values of academic rigor and intellectual curiosity that define our institution. As we celebrate this momentous achievement, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the students, coaches, and faculty members who contributed to this remarkable success.
