Douglas R. Laurie Named One of SFBJ’s 2025 Leaders in Corporate Philanthropy

In a region where community impact and corporate leadership go hand in hand, Douglas R. Laurie, co-owner and president of American Heritage Schools, has been honored by the South Florida Business Journal as one of the 2025 Power Leaders in Corporate Philanthropy.
This annual distinction celebrates business leaders across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties who go beyond the boardroom to enrich their communities. These leaders contribute not only financial resources but also their time and expertise to support causes ranging from education and health care to arts and social services.
Under Laurie’s leadership, American Heritage Schools has become one of Florida’s most acclaimed institutions, top-ranked statewide and nationally for its academics and number of National Merit Scholarship finalists. But it’s his philanthropic passion that earned him a spot among this year’s elite group of honorees.
Laurie also serves on the corporate board of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County, championing youth development and community support. His commitment to philanthropy stems from a core value at American Heritage: compassion. “It’s essential for both the school and my family to give back,” Laurie notes.
In the Business Journal profile, he shares advice for tomorrow’s nonprofit leaders: “Stay focused on your mission, embrace innovation, and never underestimate the power of collaboration and giving back to the community.” If unlimited funds were at his disposal, Laurie says he’d dedicate them to creating accessible, high-quality education for all.
From academic excellence to cultural curiosity, his latest discovery being the Florida Keys, Douglas Laurie exemplifies the spirit of giving and leadership. His recognition is not only a testament to his personal dedication but also a reflection of the values woven into the fabric of American Heritage Schools.
