Designing and Building a Future in Engineering

High School Pre Engineering Program

Engineering is a field that will be in demand for years to come.

Benefits of our Pre-Engineering Program:

  • Curriculum includes advanced subjects in various engineering fields
  • All classes taught by experienced professionals
  • Participate in senior year internships
  • Memberships in engineering societies & clubs
  • Opportunities to participate in local, regional & national competitions
  • Local community service opportunities
  • Enhance college applications

The Pre-Engineering Program at American Heritage Schools was designed to help today’s students prepare for the engineering jobs of tomorrow. In this blog, we will talk about some of the career paths students can pursue in various engineering fields. Plus, we will discuss the different aspects of the Pre-Engineering Program so students can make decisions that will help them achieve career dreams.

The different paths in engineering

Engineers invent, design, build, and test structures, machines, gadgets, and systems according to specified plans and requirements. Both math and science are used to achieve these objectives. There are several engineering industries available.

Biomedical Engineering – Combines engineering with medical sciences to design and build medical equipment and devices and software and computer systems used in healthcare.

Chemical Engineering – Uses chemical and biological processes to create substances or materials. It combines experimental and natural sciences, along with biology, math, and economics.

Civil Engineering – Designing and developing infrastructure, from roads and bridges to large transportation systems or water supply networks.

Computer Engineering – Design and prototype computer hardware and software.

Electrical Engineering – Utilizing electrical power applications and focusing mainly on large-scale production and supply of power.

Mechanical Engineering – Focuses on designing, manufacturing, and maintaining mechanical systems and machines.

Other engineering fields:

  • Aerospace engineering
  • Environmental engineering
  • Health and safety engineering
  • Industrial engineering
  • Mining and geological engineering
  • Nuclear engineering
  • Petroleum engineering

Predictions for engineering

The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a 3% job growth in engineering fields by the year 2029. The median salary range is generally over $80,000 a year, with computer, aerospace, electrical, chemical, nuclear, and petroleum engineers making over $100,000 a year.

Pre-Engineering Program at American Heritage Schools

The Pre-Engineering Program includes advanced courses designed to introduce students to the basic concepts of engineering and possible career paths.

Courses include:

  • Introduction to Engineering Design
  • Principles of Engineering
  • Digital Electronics
  • Engineering Design & Development
  • Physics
  • Calculus
  • Statistics
  • Computer Science Essentials
  • Computer Science Principles
  • Architecture Design I & II

All courses are taught by professionals in the field. During a student’s senior year, they will be given the opportunity to participate in internships to get an idea of engineering in the real world. They can focus on different industries, including biomedical, civil, aeronautical, and software engineering.

Memberships, competitions, and recognitions

All students in the Pre-Engineering Program can join the Pre-Engineering Society and related clubs. Students also have the opportunity to enter prestigious competitions, including the First Robotics Competition (FRC), FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC). There are also regional competitions sponsored by SECME.

Community service

Students in the Pre-Engineering Program will also have the opportunity to make a difference in our community. We work with the Lighthouse of Broward, a non-profit organization that serves visually impaired and blind and individuals. We participate in several fundraisers and activities, interacting with children and adults to help create solutions for people with physical challenges.
