Individual Attention

A complete testing is administered to each Academy student to determine his/her academic and intellectual abilities. We also begin to work with the student at his/her current level of academic performance. This will not necessarily correlate to chronological age or presumed grade level.
Our teachers use a multi-sensory approach to learning along with a wide variety of individualized educational materials including computers. Students receive instruction in small groups or in one on one situations to strengthen and enlarge the base of existing skills. Class size is limited to 12 students, and each teacher has the assistance of a full time aide through grade 5.

Students in all grades who need more concentrated help in mastering phonics, improving comprehension or other reading skills work with our reading specialist, as well as the classroom teacher.

The ultimate goal of the Academy program is to allow students to transfer into a more traditional classroom atmosphere in our American Heritage School. Administrators and teachers from both schools, together with parents, determine the right time for a move into the Heritage program. Students at all grade levels are sometimes mainstreamed into American Heritage classes on a course by course basis
