Mission Statement:

The Library Media Centers of American Heritage and Academy of Boca/Delray propose to serve as useful and integral partners to the School’s educational programs and goals; to promote a love of reading and encourage lifelong literacy; and to promote and teach methods of information retrieval that will continue throughout the students’ academic careers and non-academic endeavors.

 

Basic Information:

The current combined resources of the Lower and Upper School Media Centers include computer labs and 12,000+ individual resources; we are continually increasing in numbers and quality.

NetTrekker

       NetTrekker is a internet search engine especially designed for students and parents. NetTrekker delivers more than 180,000 educationally approved websites.  Includes topics on Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, Mathematics, Foreign Language, Health, Philosophy, Religion, Technology, Career Education, , Consumer Science, Current events and Reference Tools.  There are separate search site for Elementry School, Middle School and High School.

Learning Today

  • A web-bases learning program for interactive reading
  • Provides academic and computer skills for Grades K-2

EBSCO

       Ebsco offers a wide variety of references and resources for students in grades 6-12.  It is user friendly with full text from popular magazines, journals, newspapers, biographies, almanacs, dictionaries, encyclopedias, photos, maps, flags and other reference materials.   It consists of two components:  EBSCOhost Web and Student Research Center.

  •  Community based password protected wedsite
  • Personalized calendar of student’s activities, assignments, test, sporting events and other school happenings.

SIRS KNOWLEDGE SOURCE

       SIRS is a research database consisting of 5 components:

  1. SIRS Researcher:  Student reference, Social Issues, Health, Science and Business.
  2. SIRS Government Reporter:  Locate historic documents, directories and almanacs.
  3. SIRS Renaissance:  Current perspectives on the arts and humanities.
  4. SIRS Web-Select:  Searches selected websites.
  5. SIRS Discover:  Database for young (Middle School) researchers, links to the web.  This a general reference database.

INFO-TRAK

       Info-Trac is a research databases composed of three elements:

  1. Discovering Collection:  In-depth reference content of core curriculum areas
  2. Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center:  Information on social issues.  Access viewpoint articles, topic overviews, statistics, primary documents, links to websites, full text magazine and newspaper articles.
  3. Science Resource Center:  Topic overviews, experiments, biographies, pictures and illustrations, and latest scientific developments.  Curriculum related directly to state and national standards.
