ACTING 1/2
Students will learn the fundamentals of theatre and the basic craft skills of acting with emphasis on personal creativity, theatre “games”, improvisation, character study, analysis, writing, monologues and scene work. It is important for students to possess basic theatre knowledge and the fundamentals of acting, to be able to apply them to the future study of the craft. Without the basics, it is impossible to further a career, or an educated passion, for the art form. Prerequisite: students must take Acting1 in the first semester to take Acting 2 in the second semester.
ACTING 3
Building on the skills learned in Acting 1 and 2, students will continue the study of the craft of acting with emphasis on personal creativity, theatre “games”, improvisation, character study, analysis, writing, monologues and scene work. Prerequisite: students must take Acting1 and Acting 2 or have instructor permission.
ACTING 4
This course is designed to prepare the student for further study of the craft of acting and provide skills useful for life. The course is divided into two semesters. The first semester will focus entirely on the student’s creation of his/her own one person show. The show (10-15 minutes) will be conceived, written, designed, directed and performed entirely by the student, with the assistance from his/her fellow classmates. This project will culminate with a performance on Monday, December 10th at 7:30pm at the Crest Theatre at Old Schoolhouse Square in downtown Delray. The second semester will focus on auditioning and the business of acting. Prerequisite: Acting 1, 2 and 3 or instructor permission.
MIDDLE SCHOOL BEGINNING THEATRE ARTS
Students will learn the fundamentals of theatre (performance, design, technical, operational, etc.) and the basic craft skills of acting with emphasis on personal creativity, theatre “games”, improvisation, character study, analysis, writing, monologues and scene work. It is important for students to possess basic theatre knowledge and the fundamentals of acting, to be able to apply them to the future study of the craft. Without the basics, it is impossible to further a career, or an educated passion, for the art form.
MIDDLE SCHOOL ADVANCED THEATRE ARTS
Students will continue to learn the fundamentals of theatre (performance, design, technical, operational, etc.) and the basic craft skills of acting with emphasis on personal creativity, theatre “games”, improvisation, character study, analysis, writing, monologues and scene work. It is important for students to possess basic theatre knowledge. Without the basics, it is impossible to further a career, or an educated passion, for the art form. The class will stress creative problem solving, critical thinking and authentic experience utilizing imagination, experiences, and innate wisdom to present a final performance at the end of the semester (outside of class).
4TH AND 5TH GRADE THEATRE ARTS
Students in grades 4 and 5 will learn a basic knowledge of theatre and use their creativity to create scenes and presentations of varying degrees and elements, utilizing various forms of theatrical expression (ie, song, dance, puppetry, poetry, masks, movement, etc.).
