Math, reading, grammar, literature, social studies and science are the core subjects of the junior high curriculum. Through structured learning experiences, we strengthen and expand basic skills and advance the knowledge of science and social studies. Critical thinking skills become increasingly important at this level of study. Our goal is to thoroughly prepare our students for the years of high school and college that lie ahead.
Students in seventh and eighth grades take two language arts classes each day. One class focuses on reading and literature, the other on written and oral communications. Students who qualify may elect to take Honors English classes. Writing skills are emphasized across the curriculum. We believe that this emphasis on language arts will help our students to become literate and articulate thinkers and writers. Our state-of-the-art computer labs and the library/media center are available for research. In the library/media center, students receive instruction by a research assistant on the most effective ways to use the Internet as a valuable source of information.
In math, students take a comprehensive general math course or an advanced math course determined by their math abilities. Students who successfully complete Honors Algebra in grade eight are awarded high school credit. At this level, students will take a life or earth science course with laboratory experiences. Science labs are held in a well equipped lab center.
Enrichment courses are an important part of the junior high curriculum. Courses are rotated on a nine week basis. Students receive instruction in computers, foreign language and physical education. In a daily study/activity period, they may also choose drama, art, band or chorus classes.
Foreign language for enrichment and/or high school credit is also offered at the junior high level.
Core subject classes meet for 50 minutes each day.

All of our teachers are experienced and have an enthusiasm for working with adolescents. Teachers are fully certified in their subject areas. Specialty class instructors are certified in the areas they teach. Our low student to teacher ratios assure that teachers "have time" to give every student the attention he or she needs to be successful. In addition, regular help sessions are scheduled on a weekly basis for students who need extra reinforcement of skills or new concepts. The faculty takes an interest in the physical, emotional and social development of students at this volatile age. Many teachers welcome additional interaction such as advising a club or coaching a sport. Students are actively encouraged to participate in sports and all school activities to further their own social and emotional growth.
Athletics
Participation in athletics is encouraged as a means for students to work together, learn the importance of good sportsmanship and fair play, and enhance their physical well-being. Our "no cut" policy permits young athletes to join the teams regardless of experience or ability. All students with an interest in a sport are accepted onto the team and receive the opportunity to play and develop skills. Students with exceptional skills in a sport may try out for Varsity sports in some instances.
